Frequently asked

Does Sailing Log work without internet?

Yes — that's the whole point. All logging, settling and exporting happen on your device. The only times the app reaches the internet are: signing in with Google (optional), tapping the reverse-geocode button on a saved coordinate, loading map tiles when you open the track map, and buying the lifetime unlock through Google Play or the App Store.

How does the 14-day trial work?

The trial starts the first time you open the app. You get every feature, no restrictions, for 14 days. On day 15 a paywall appears and you can either buy the one-time lifetime unlock or wait — your data is never deleted, even if you let the trial expire.

I bought the lifetime unlock and got a new phone. How do I restore it?

On Android, sign in with the same Google account you used at purchase (Settings → Account → Continue with Google); on iPhone, use the same Apple ID. Then tap Restore previous purchase. The unlock is tied to your store account, not to a specific device.

Where are my trips, photos and logs stored?

Locally, in the app's private storage on your phone. They are not backed up to any cloud by default. To make your own backup, go to Settings → Export JSON and save the file somewhere safe (email it to yourself, drop it in Google Drive, etc.).

How do I import data from another phone?

On the source phone, Settings → Export JSON. Send the file to the destination phone (email / messenger / cloud drive). On the new phone, Settings → Import JSON, pick the file, and confirm. Existing data is preserved; the import is additive.

The track map is blank / map tiles aren't loading.

Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap and need internet access the first time you open a tile. Once cached, they work offline. If tiles still fail, check that the device has working internet and that tiles.openstreetmap.org isn't blocked by a firewall or DNS filter.

How do I split costs that aren't shared evenly?

In the cost-split panel for a trip, tap an expense → set the Split mode to either "Equal among everyone", "By cabin", or "Custom shares". Custom shares let you specify exactly how many "parts" each crew member pays. The settlement view always shows the minimum set of transfers required.

Can I use Sailing Log on iOS / web / desktop?

Sailing Log is live now on Android and iPhoneget it on Google Play or download it on the App Store. There is also a web logbook builder at sailinglogapp.com/builder.

Which languages are supported?

14 languages: English, German, Slovak, Czech, Polish, Hungarian, Spanish, Italian, French, Croatian, Slovenian, Bosnian, Montenegrin and Albanian. Change language under Settings → Language. The PDF exports are localised too.

Is there a refund policy?

Refunds for the lifetime unlock follow the store's policy — on Android via Google Play (Account → Order history, within 48 hours), on iPhone via Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com). After that window, contact us at [email protected] and we'll do our best.

Can I delete my account?

There's no "account" to delete — Sailing Log stores no server-side profile. If you signed in with Google, just sign out (Settings → Account → Sign out) and tap Settings → Reset All Data to wipe local data. If you'd also like us to delete the email / name we briefly received from Google, email [email protected] and it's done immediately.
